THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state has confirmed 91 new coronavirus positive cases on Monday, health minister KK Shailaja said. Of the new cases, 27 are in Thrissur, 14 in Malappuram, 13 in Kozhikode, eight in Kasaragod, seven in Alappuzha, five each in Kollam and Alappuzha, four in Kannur, three each in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam and Kottayam, two in Wayanad and one in Palakkad.
Among the new cases, 73 persons returned from abroad (UAE-42, Kuwait-15, Oman-5, Russia-4, Nigeria-3, Saudi Arabia-2, Italy-1, Jordan-1), 15 persons returned from other states (Maharashtra-6, Tamil Nadu-6, Delhi-2, Karnataka-1). A person in Thrissur developed the disease through contact.
Dini Chacko (41), who was under treatment for the disease at Thrissur Medical College, died today. He had a severe respiratory problem and liver disease. So far 16 people have died of the disease.
Meanwhile, 11 coronavirus patients tested negative for the disease on Monday. Five of these patients are in Kasaragod, two each in Palakkad, Wayanad and Kannur(Kasaragod natives).
As of today, there are 1174 patients under treatment for the viral disease at various hospitals in Kerala. 814 persons recovered from the disease.
A total of 1,87,619 persons came to Kerala through various channels (airports-49,065, sea port-1621, check posts-1,23,029, railway-19,648). There are 1,97,078 persons under observation in the state with 1,95,307 at home/institutional quarantine and 1771 at hospitals. 211 persons were admitted to hospitals on Sunday.
In the past 24 hours, 3827 samples were sent for testing. As of Sunday, 85,676 samples of individuals(including augmented samples) were sent for testing. Of the available results, 82,362 are negative.
As part of sentinel surveillance, 22,357 samples of persons in priority group were sent for testing. Of this, 21,110 samples returned with negative results.
Including 5,923 repeat samples, a total of 1,13,956 samples were tested so far.
Six new hotspots were declared on Monday-Shornur in Palakkad and Moorkanadu, Kuruva, Kalpakancherry, Edappal, and Vattamkulam in Malappuram. Currently, there are 150 hotspots in the state.
