THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Recent report suggests that a large section of religious institutions in the state are unwilling to reopen worship places from Tuesday onwards despite receiving the nod from the state government. Meanwhile, the Travancore, Cochin and Malabar devaswom boards have announced that devotees will be permitted to enter its temples from Tuesday onwards. The Sabarimala temple will be reopened on June 14 for the monthly pooja.
The famous Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in the capital city will not reopen till June 30, authorities said. Attukal temple will also remain closed till further notice. The churches under the Syro MalabarCatholic Church and the Jacobite group will also remain closed till June 30. Metropolitan of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar Joseph Mar Thoma on Monday said its churches would not be opened in a hurry from Tuesday. Churches under the Ernakulam-Angamaly archdiocese will also remain closed. Meanwhile, churches under Malankara Orthodox Church will reopen from Tuesday. Though the churches under Varappuzha Latin Archdiocese will reopen from Tuesday, the pilgrimage centres will remain shut.
On the other hand, the majority of the mosques in the state will remain shut as Muslim leaders felt that the government's conditions regarding the reopening of mosques are not practical. While mosques in the cities will remain closed, those in villages can reopen by following the guidelines issued by the government, Muslim religious leaders stated.
