THIRUVANNATHAPURAM: Power Minister M M Mani has said the government will try for consensus among political parties in order to go ahead with Athirappilly hydroelectric project.

“We have not abandoned the project and the CPM stand is that the project should be implemented,” he said.

When asked about the CPI opposition to the project, he retorted: “Ask them only…”

Earlier, the CPI, the main LDF ally and its youth wing AIYF had come out against the project. The Opposition UDF had also joined them. On Wednesday, the BJP also raised its objection to the project.
