THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Misleading news regarding the Athirappilly project is spreading, electricity minister MM Mani said.

There is some news that the government is going ahead with the project discarding all opposition. Many including the opposition leader, KPCC president, and BJP state president have issued statements regarding this. Such responses are because some might not know the reality or have the mentality to fish in troubled water, MM Mani said.

The project has acquired permissions from the Central Electricity Authority and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. As the validity of the permit is about to expire, the KSEB had sought a NOC from the Kerala government for renewal. The government permitted it. This is a normal usual procedure. The government plans to go forward with the project on reaching consensus. The government has not decided to abandon the project, MM said.
