THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ever since liquor shops in the State reopened in the State on May 28, Jayamohan Thampi and his son Ashwin drank liquor every day and the last three to four days both didn’t take even food, according to the statement given by Ashwin to the police.
Ashwin also had a history of his relatives admitting him in de-addiction centre after he was in the habit of getting drunk and creating commotion.
Even he was locked up in his room for some days but this also din’t give any good result. After this, Ashwin’s younger brother and other relatives stopped going to his house.
Whenever there happens to be a drunken brawl with his father, he would call up his brother or cousins and inform them.
On Saturday also, he informed his brother after hitting his father but he took it lightly as it was a common incident between the two, according to his brother Ashiq Mohan. When he called Ashwin back after some time, his mobile phone was switched off.
After hitting Jayamohan Thampi, Ashwin went out, bought liquor, came back home and started drinking again.
In the evening, when Thampi regained consciousness slightly, he went to the next house and asked them for help to call the ambulance. But nobody cared for his words as he was heavily drunk.
“Someone near the house used to buy liquor for them. Since morning, both father and son had been under the influence of liquor… some of their friends also went to this house to join them,” said the locals.
Only four months ago, Ashwin had returned to Kerala from Kuwait. He had lost his job there due to his drinking habit.
Even after returning, he continued his drinking habit and post-drink quarrelling habit.
Due to his intolerable drinking habits, Ashwin’s wife also had left the house. It was Ashwin who used Jayamohan Thampi’s ATM card and credit cards.
