THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state has confirmed 83 new coronavirus positive cases on Thursday, CM Pinarayi Vijayan said. Of the new cases, 25 are in Thrissur, 13 in Palakkad, 10 each in Kasaragod and Malappuram, eight in Kollam, seven in Kannur, five in Pathanamthitta, two each in Kottayam and Ernakulam, and one in Kozhikode.

Among the new cases, 27 persons had returned from abroad and 37 persons had returned from other states. 14 persons developed the disease through contact. Five health workers in the state and four sanitization workers in Thrissur developed the disease through contact.

Meanwhile, 62 coronavirus patients tested negative for the disease on Thursday. 16 of these patients are in Thiruvananthapuram, 13 in Palakkad, eight in Kannur, seven in Thrissur, six in Ernakulam, five in Kasaragod, three in Kozhikode, two each in Malappuram and Kollam.


There are 133 hotspots in the state. 35 places were removed from the list. The government has updated the guidelines for COVID observation. Those returning from abroad will be quarantined at their homes. Other members of the home should be given awareness, the CM said.


The police have to make sure they reach home. Local self-governing institutions should make sure the homes have proper facilities for quarantine. Those returning from other states have to upload an affidavit on Jagratha portal, CM Vijayan added.
