THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Renowned poet, orator and lecturer Prof. Kummil Sukumaran (89) passed away at his residence in Varkala in Thiruvananthapuram. He was undergoing treatment for age-related ailments.
Sukumaran is known for his collection of poems such as 'Harshamudra', 'Maranamillatha Kavi', 'Simhanadam' and 'Kaveriyum Yamunayum'. He had also translated world-famous works such as Tagore's 'Gitanjali', Kalidasa's Ritusamhara and Thomas Gray's 'Elegy' into Malayalam. His funeral took place at the premises of his house. He is survived by children Sandhya and Deepu.
