THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said that people must remain on high alert as the state might be staring at chances of community spread of coronavirus. It must be noted that five persons who died of infection in the state had contracted the disease from unknown sources.

Both Chief Minister and Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran had stated on Saturday that strict safety measures must be implemented in the state capital in the wake of increasing COVID cases. Other districts such as Kannur, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur and Kollam have also reported cases in which source of infection have not been identified yet.

As of now, there are 70 cases in the state in which the source of infection remains untraced. Of these, 49 were reported after May 4. This shows that there has been the transmission of the disease since the arrival of Keralites from abroad and from other states. The situation might turn worse as several Keralites are scheduled to return in the upcoming days.

Authorities have also expressed concerns regarding the death of the 28-year-old Excise driver Sunil. The news of the youth's death came as a shock when the authorities have been implementing various safety measures such as reverse quarantine in the case of elderly people and children.
