NEW DELHI: As the number of COVID-19 cases in the country is increasing day by day, Mumbai and Delhi have emerged as the two worst-affected cities in the country. While Mumbai's COVID tally has reached around 66,488 cases, Delhi has recently surpassed Tamil Nadu to become the second worst-hit state in the country.
Following this, authorities in both cities have initiated efforts to contain the outbreak of the pandemic. In Delhi, the authorities will be emphasizing on more effective containment and tracing efforts, widening the scope of detecting infections, intensifying social distancing and surveillance and inclusion of epidemiologists at the district level to augment the health care efforts. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has held several meetings with CM Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan regarding this.
Authorities in Mumbai are also focusing on checking the rise in the number of COVID cases in the suburbs of the city. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will launch a rapid action plan (RAP) in these areas and will rely on tracing, tracking, testing and treating as it did in Dharavi and Worli.
