bribery

KOZHIKODE: In connection with a bribery case, former sub-registrar of Chevayoor Beena PK hailing was sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 5 lakhs. The verdict was given by vigilance court special judge KV Vijayakumar. If the fine is unpaid, the accused has to serve six more months in prison.

It was in 2014 when Beena asked for Rs 5000 as bribe from title deed writer Bhaskaran Nair to complete registration. She also threatened him to cancel the title deed, if the amount is not given. Following this, Bhaskaran Nair informed Kozhikode unit vigilance DySP NP Premdas. Beena was later nabbed by the vigilance while receiving Rs 5000 bribe in a record room of the sub-registrar office.

There is an ongoing trial of a disproportionate asset case against Beena at the vigilance court.
