Today there was yet another incident of elephant accident but luckily the jumbo was saved by the Forest officers. The baby tusker that entered the human habitat at Kothamangalam Pooyamkutti had fallen into a narrow but deep well dug in the area.

Initially, there was altercation between the forest officers and the locals over rescuing the elephant.

They first didn’t allow the officers to do their duty, saying that trenches should be built and fencing should be enhanced to prevent elephants from entering their habitations and destroying their crops.

“Let us first help the elephant out of the danger and after that we’ll look into the issue,” the officers told the locals and went out to rescue the elephant.
After hours of toil using JCB, they were able cut out a path for the baby elephant to come out of the well. After climbing up the well carefully, he ran into the forest but not without kicking down a parked bike on his way back to the forest.
