THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases through contact in Thiruvananthapuram, an action plan to avoid super spread was prepared in a high-level meeting presided by health minister KK Shailaja. The plan was prepared following a directive from the chief minister.
In areas like Poonthura where it reached a situation of super spread, strict restrictions will be imposed by separating the area into special clusters. Testing will be increased in areas where there is a larger outbreak. Infected persons will be identified quickly and their contacts will be quarantined. A guideline was issued regarding this. A review meeting will be be held every day and further measures will be taken. Aggressive awareness campaigning will be held in COVID hit areas, the minister said.
In our neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu, the COVID outbreak is severe. Many come to Kerala from there for several requirements including treatment. Observation will be increased as people come in from infected areas. For those who come from across the border, facilities including special OP and in-patient treatment will be prepared, she said.
As the disease gets severe pretty soon, each family is responsible to ensure the protection of seniors, pregnant women and children. They will have to follow reverse quarantine. The number of cases due to contact increase after lifting the lockdown. All should wear masks, maintain social distance, and wash hands frequently with soap. The situation will go out of hand if there is any lapse. In order to prevent any further escalation, all should follow the guidelines from the health department, Shailaja added.
