THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The customs have intensified search for Swapna Suresh, suspected to be the main accused in the gold smuggling case. The enforcement directorate will also probe the case. The assessment is that it will be investigated as per Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). It is reported that the money was transferred abroad. Reports said the investigation will be based on it. Reports also said that the gold was smuggled with the knowledge of a top bigwig of the consulate. Action is likely to be taken against this official.

Meantime, Swapna Suresh has been absconding for four days. The customs believe that Swapna is with Sandeep Nair, suspected to be the main kingpin in the case. While customs reiterate that Swapna is in Thiruvananthapuram itself, her phone is found switched on by two towers in Chennai and this has confused them. The phone was switched on to order food online and to call her close relative. It is suspected that someone may have taken the phone to Chennai to mislead the investigators.

After examining the call details of her phone, the customs have noticed the bigwigs close to her. She has called more than two dozen officials before and after the gold was seized. The customs had obtained information that she is hiding in a five-star guest house of a private hospital in the capital city. Unconfirmed reports said that she has crossed the border in their ambulance.
