KOCHI: Sarith, accused in the gold smuggling case has been sent to customs custody. The special court in Kochi considering financial offences sent him to customs custody till July 15.
The customs argued that his custody is inevitable for further probe in the case. The customs have collected the call record details of his phone. The details of those involved in the gold smuggling have to be found. The customs informed the court that Sarith has to be questioned for it.
Sarith was produced in the court after subjected for COVID test in Angamaly. He tested negative of the virus.
Sarith has destroyed some crucial documents and proofs in connection with the case. He formatted his phone and then destroyed the records. The help of forensic experts and cyber experts are needed to retrieve it and will be able to find it, customs informed the court.
Meantime, Swapna Suresh, the main conspirator and aide of Sarith is still on the run. She has approached the court for anticipatory bail.
