swapna

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The information given in the anticipatory bail plea submitted by Swapna Suresh, the suspected brain behind the attempt to smuggle gold through diplomatic channel at Thiruvananthapuram airport, is seen as the attempt of the gold mafia to wriggle out of the case by passing the blame on to UAE embassy officials in Thiruvananthapuram as they enjoy diplomatic immunity.

Swapna’s statement is that she had called Customs Assistant Commissioner to release the baggage according to the instruction given to her by UAE Consular general Jamal Hussain Al Zaabi.

India will not be able to try the Consular general in any of its court. Besides him, there are also two UAE Attachés in Thiruvananthapuram consulate who have diplomatic immunity in India.

Even to question them, UAE’s permission is needed and this is the reason why attempt is being made to drag them into the case.

Even if they are made accused, they will have to be deported to their homeland.

This aspect can further be used to weaken the case.

The statement given by Attachés to the Customs was that only food items in the baggage belonged to them but this has contradicted Swapna’s statement.

This also proves that the diplomatic channel was misused. Customs have produced all such statements in the court.

Swapna has said that she had called Customs according to the instruction of Consular general but the Consulate has not confirmed this.

The Customs presumes that Swapna used her influence in the Consular to try to get the bag released safely.
