KOCHI: Bishop Franco Mulakkal, against whom a court issued a non-bailable warrant in connection with the alleged rape of a Kerala nun, has tested positive for COVID-19. It has been mentioned that Franco got the disease from a lawyer in Punjab. He is presently in Jalandhar.

Franco had informed the court that as his lawyer Mandeep Singh tested positive of the virus, he was included in the initial contact list and was in quarantine. He said this when the court asked him the reason for not appearing in the court.

The Kottayam additional sessions court had cancelled the bail in the case of alleged rape of a nun and this was following his continuous absence in the court. The court will consider the case on August 13.

Franco informed the court that he visited the lawyer for seeking legal advice. Franco has been admitted at the Jalandhar district hospital.
