THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The NIA will question together the accused Swapna Suresh, Sandeep Nair and Sarith, the main accused in the gold smuggling case. The enforcement has also taken a case against the accused arraigned by the NIA. A case was taken against Sarith, Swapna, Rameez and Sandeep. The enforcement will probe whether they have amassed wealth using the gold smuggled.

The national investigation agency will examine whether chief minister’s former principal secretary M Sivasankar has a role in the conspiracy of gold smuggling. The NIA has taken steps to get the custody of Sarith arrested earlier.

Meantime, the court will consider customs plea seeking the custody of Rameez, a native of Malappuram, remanded the other day. The bail plea of the first accused Sarith is also in the court. The latest news that came was that the accused had collected Rs 8 crore for gold smuggling.

Rameez, Jalaal, Sandeep Nair and Amjad Ali jointly collected the money. The gold smuggled from Dubai was bought with the amount collected. It was Jalaal of Moovattupuzha who made the deal to sell the gold to jewelleries. An amount of Rs 7 lakh was fixed as commission for Swapna and Sarith.
