THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala crossed 10,000 COVID-19 positive cases after the highest single-day spike of 722 cases on Thursday. Of the new cases, 157 persons came from abroad and 62 returned from other states. 481 persons developed the disease through contact. Sources of 34 cases couldn't be traced. Two deaths were reported today. 12 health workers also contracted the disease on Thursday.

On Thursday alone, 832 persons were admitted to hospitals. There are 5372 active cases in the state. The capital district of Thiruvananthapuram recorded the highest ever 339 COVID positive cases today, which includes 301 cases through contact. The situation here is alarming as the cases through contact are on a steep increase.

After the staff of Ramachandran Hypermarket in Thiruvananthapuram tested positive for the deadly virus, the state government is now facing a challenge to trace the contacts. CM Pinarayi Vijayan during his press meet on Thursday urged the people to contact the health department in case they went to the shop. 17 more staff of this shop tested positive after testing 81 samples.

As of today, there are 271 hotspots in the state. Even after implementing strict lockdown measures, the number of COVID-19 cases are on an upward curve. The increasing number of cases through contact is causing concern among health workers.
