THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala confirmed the highest single-day spike of 791 positive cases of COVID-19 on Friday, CM Pinarayi Vijayan told the media. With this, the total confirmed cases in the state crossed rose to 11,066. Of the new cases, 135 persons came from abroad and 98 returned from other states. 532 persons developed the disease through contact. Sources of 42 cases couldn't be traced. 15 health workers, 7 KSSC, 1 ITBP and 1 BSF personnel also contracted the disease on Friday.

While stating that the situation is worsening in Thiruvananthapuram, the CM added that community transmission has commenced in Pulluvila and Poonthura regions in the district. The state also reported one COVID death on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Thrissur native Shaiju. Meanwhile, the test result of Kunissery native Murali, who committed suicide also returned positive.


Meanwhile, 133 persons tested negative for the virus on Friday, he added. At present, there are 285 hotspots in the state.
