THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday announced that coastal areas of Thiruvananthapuram district such as Pulluvila and Poonthura have reached the phase of community transmission. While adding that the restrictions in the state capital will be intensified, he added that complete lockdown will be announced in coastal areas where the transmission rate is high.
According to the Chief Minister, the coastal areas are witnessing a rapid increase in the number of COVID-19 cases for the past few days. While 51 out of 97 samples tested in Karinkulam returned positive, 26 out of 50 people tested positive in Poonthura. Out of the 75 samples tested in Puthukkurishi, 20 returned positive. He also added that 15 out of 83 people tested positive in Anthuthengu.
He further added that the coastal area has been divided into three zones. While the first zone comprises coastal areas from Anchuthengu to Perumathura, the second zone consists of areas from Perumathura to Vizhinjam, Regions from Vizhinjam to Oorambu come under the third zone. A special system under the leadership of Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner Balram Kumar Upadhyay has been formed in the police force in order bring the situation under control, the CM added.
