THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the situation in Thiruvananthapuram remains critical after test results of 173 persons returned positive on Saturday. He also added that 152 of the newly infected persons contracted the disease through contact. He further stated that high vigil must be maintained in Pulluvila and Poonthura regions where community transmission has commenced.

According to the chief minister, the number of COVID cases through local transmission is increasing in the state capital and it is high time that people cooperate with the authorities to keep the situation under control. Strict action will be taken against those who unnecessarily come out of their homes.

Meanwhile, the government announced a complete lockdown for 10 days in the coastal areas of the district starting from Saturday midnight. The government is also considering to treat asymptomatic patients and those without severe problems at their homes, the CM added.
