THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The appointment of Jayaghosh, who attempted suicide, was with after a direct order from the DGP without a recommendation from the state security committee.
He was under deputation for five years at the Immigration Bureau in the airport, which is under the Intelligence Bureau. Jayaghosh was assigned as liaison officer to welcome VVIPs and top guns from politics, cinema, and business. After this, he was appointed as a gunman at the consulate. A recommendation from a security panel headed by the home secretary is needed for appointments at offices linked to foreign nations. But in the appointment of Jayaghosh, this wasn't followed. According to the police, the appointment was made adhering to the protocols of the Ministry of External Affairs.
Meanwhile, the Customs have got information that the appointment was made on the recommendation of an industrialist in the Middle East. The Customs will quiz Nagaraj, who was a liaison officer for eight years at the airport and also a friend of Jayaghosh.
The suicide attempt of Jayaghosh is suspected to be a drama and pre-planned. According to his statement to the magistrate, Jayaghosh attempted suicide out of fear that gold smugglers might kill him. He has now survived a critical state at the hospital. Jayaghosh's unusual scare, which is not seen among other staff in the consulate, is also suspicious. The Customs is also looking into the bank accounts of Jayaghosh's relatives. It is learnt that he knew that the Customs would eventually question him in connection with the gold smuggling.
Jayaghosh was under trouble following the exit of UAE attache from the nation. Jayaghosh has the responsibility to notify the Crime Branch CID if attache leaves the nation. This lapse could end up in a dismissal from the force.
