DUBAI: Faizal Fareed, third accused in the gold smuggling case in Thiruvananthapuram, has been arrested. The Dubai Rashidiya police arrested him on Thursday that is three days ago. He has been questioned thrice by now. He is a native of Moonupeedika in Kodungalloor. He is likely to be extradited to India. Offences like forgery of documents, aid to terrorist activities and his involvement in the smuggling case have been charged on him.
The Indian Embassy has informed UAE that his passport has been withheld. As per India’s request, the UAE imposed a travel ban and had issued a lookout notice. This was to stop him from fleeing to other countries from UAE. When reports first came about Faizal Fareed, he came before the media and denied his role in the gold smuggling case.
The UAE reviewed that he has committed a serious offence. This is one of the most crucial arrest in the gold smuggling case.
However, the NIA confirmed his role in the case. Following that, he had gone underground.
He was staying at Rashidiya in Dubai. He is the owner of a luxury gymnasium and a workshop. A raid was conducted at his house in Thrissur the other day.
