THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The recent increase in the number of COVID-19 cases among health workers is becoming a matter of concern in Kerala. 108 health workers, including doctors, have tested positive for coronavirus in the state in the last 20 days. With 7 doctors, 3 nurses and 8 other health workers testing positive within the last four days, the situation in Thiruvananthapuram Medical College is becoming more critical. Following this, the surgery ward was closed last week and several people were placed in quarantine.


The nephrology department in Govt Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode was also closed after a nurse tested positive for the virus. 24 health workers including doctors, nurses and sanitation workers have been quarantined as soon as the nurse's test result returned positive. Meanwhile, authorities announced that special care will be given to the 16 patients who have been undergoing treatment at the nephrology ward. The authorities have also announced that only those seeking emergency treatment should come to the hospital.


7 hospitals in Idukki high range were closed after several health workers tested positive for coronavirus in the district. While 25 health workers tested positive in Thrissur, 20 health workers tested positive in Ernakulam and 13 health workers tested positive in Alappuzha.
