THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The re-opening of schools will be delayed in the state. The Department of General Education said the decision to reopen schools will be taken after evaluating the transmission of COVID-19 in August. A few schools in areas with low transmission of the disease are considered to be reopened on a trial basis after Onam.

The transmission of the disease in all 14 districts is not the same. The intensity of the disease varies in districts and various panchayats. The syllabuses will be cut short only if schools cannot be reopened in September. This is not in consideration now.

School buildings will have to be used to relocate people if rains are heavy. The centre had directed to close all educational institutions till July.
