KOTTAYAM: Recent report claimed that an expat, who had recently returned from abroad, evaded quarantine only to end up at the police station. The incident occurred in Kottayam when the expat escaped from a quarantine centre at Athirampuzha in order to get drunk at a nearby toddy shop.

After getting intoxicated, the expat hired an autorickshaw and travelled to Mannarkkad. Upon reaching Mannarkkad, the person got involved in a brawl with the autorickshaw driver and went on to reveal that he had evaded quarantine. Following this, the autorickshaw driver persuaded the person to get into the vehicle and then took him to the police station.

Later, health workers reached the police station and the expat was subsequently taken to the quarantine centre in an ambulance.
