THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala confirmed the highest single-day spike of 1038 positive cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, CM Pinarayi Vijayan told the media. Of the new cases, 785 persons developed the disease through contact. 87 cases were confirmed in foreign returnees while 109 persons came from other states.
Sources of 57 cases were unidentified. There are 8816 persons under treatment. 65.16 percent persons got infected through local transmission.

The viral disease was also confirmed in 15 health workers. There are 397 hotspots in the state currently. Idukki native Narayanan (87) died of COVID-19. 20 soldiers of Nooranad ITBP also tested positive for the virus.
272 COVID patients tested negative on Wednesday. 1,59,777 persons are under observation in the state. There are 9031 active cases in the state. 1164 persons were admitted to hospitals on Wednesday alone. 3,18,646 samples were sent for testing. Results of 8320 samples are awaited.
Six panchayats were included in Aluva cluster and a curfew was imposed here. Situation continues to look worse in Thiruvananthapuram as out of the 226 cases today, 190 were through contact.
