THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state is on high alert with the number of patients exceeding one thousand per day. COVID-19 was confirmed on 1038 people yesterday. Of this, 785 people contracted the disease through contact. For the first time, the number of patients per day exceeded 100 in four districts. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had yesterday hinted that the state government may have to seriously consider imposing a lockdown as over 1,000 fresh cases were reported in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day spike so far in the state. The advice of experts should be seriously considered on it and the difficulties of the people should be taken into account.

Meantime, the situation in Thiruvananthapuram continues to be critical. Of the 226 new cases, 190 contracted the disease through contact. The source of 15 is still unknown. 18 health workers contracted the disease yesterday alone. Of the 133 new cases, 116 contracted the disease through contact. An indefinite curfew has been clamped in six panchayats near Aluva municipality limits in Ernakulam where 92 new cases were reported.
