KOCHI: A complete lockdown will not be fruitful in Kerala in the present situation and local lockdowns will be helpful, said IMA state president Dr Abraham Varghese.
When complete lockdown was implemented in Kerala earlier, we have been able to control the transmission of COVID-19 and was able to intensify preventive works. In the present situation instead of a complete lockdown, local lockdowns would be helpful. Lockdown should be imposed in areas including clusters where there is transmission of the disease.
There are all signs of community transmission in Kerala. They are present in all areas including Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode. There is an increase in the number of patients with unknown sources. The IMA is repeatedly saying there is community transmission considering the number of positive cases with no symptoms.
