THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state capital on Thursday reported 222 fresh COVID-19 cases out of which 100 persons contracted the disease through contact. It is a matter of concern that authorities have not been able to identify the sources of 16 newly affected patients. Following this, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that more health workers and officials from the Ayush department will be deployed in the district.

With several people including ward councillors testing positive for COVID-19 and MLAs being forced to go in quarantine, the situation in Thiruvananthapuram remains worrisome, the CM said. He also urged the people to remain on high alert and refrain from going out unnecessarily. Meanwhile, more number of tests will be conducted focussing on markets and other showrooms in the city.

Meanwhile, Kollam district reported 106 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday. Of the new cases, 94 contracted the disease through contact and authorities have not been able to trace sources of 9 infected people.
