THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two beggars who earn their living by begging have been tested positive for COVID-19. The two were confirmed of the virus in the antigen test conducted under the leadership of the Corporation. 84 beggars were subjected for the tests. Those tested positive have been shifted to First Line Treatment Centre, said Mayor K Sreekumar. The others have been housed at Attakulangara Central School by a team led by the corporation and the social security mission.
The Mayor said the decision to locate and evacuate people living on the streets and relocate them to a safer place was part of an effort to avoid the threat of COVID community transmission. A camp for beggars is functioning in Priyadarshini Hall.
