MALAPPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) observed that there is 25 percent deficiency in rainfall during the current monsoon in Kerala. While the state had expected around 1166 mm rainfall, it received a total of only 875 mm so far. All districts except Kozhikode have experienced a deficiency in rainfall.

No low-pressure system or cyclonic circulation has developed over the Bay of Bengal which can strengthen monsoon rains over the region. On the other hand, several low-pressure belts have formed near Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile, weather experts hope that the state will receive surplus rain in August. It must be noted that the incessant rain in August last year had resulted in flood and landslides in the state.
