PERINTHALMANNA: For making money to lead an extravagant life, the means chosen by two lovers was to snatch gold chains of wayfarers. But the main mission of chain-snatching was taken up by the girl, who is under-aged. After putting on a raincoat, she used to ride pillion on her man’s bike and rob people of their gold chains.

However, the youth was nabbed by the police and put behind the bars while the girl, the second accused, was sent home with her parents after a case was filed against her.

The accused is Sreerag (23), a native of Malappuram Padinjattumuri. From his much younger days, he was in love with the girl. He told the police that he did the crime to make money as he had dreams of leading a posh life.

Their activities came to light after they snatched the chain of a woman at a road near Angadippuram Thirumandamkunnu temple. Though both fled the scene, they could be easily tracked down with the help of CCTV visuals and information received from the social media. The girl was the one who snatched the chain. Their plan was to flee to Wayanad in a rented car but police caught them just before that attempt

The gold sold to Malappuram jewellery was recovered. It was a rented bike they used for the operation.
