THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains lashed several parts of Kerala. The rains which started last night is still continuing. There are heavy rains in Thrissur, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts. In many districts, low-lying areas have been flooded. In Ernakulam, water flooded many places including Thoppumpady areas. Heavy rains are continuing in the western and hilly areas of Kottayam. Water level in the rivers has risen. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea as there is a possibility for strong waves.
The third shutter of the Aruvikkara Dam in Thiruvananthapuram was raised by 10 cm due to increased water flow. The district administration has said that the shutters will be raised by 30 cm if the rains continue. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains till Saturday. There is possibility for heavy winds also.
Orange alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts. Yellow alert has been issued today in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts. Orange alert has been issued tomorrow in Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts.
