THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The information collected by the NIA by questioning former principal secretary Sivasankar for 25 hours may open the doors for a CBI inquiry into his official dealings.

However, NIA has found out corruption and unholy dealings linked to Sivankar and they include giving various projects to foreign companies or consultancies. The CBI can charge him under Prevention of Corruption act and probe his dealings. Based on the NIA’s report, either the court or the Centre can order an investigation by the CBI.

Though the NIA can probe a sub-crime while conducting terror or treason-related crime, corruption will not come under its schedule.

The CBI is only concerned about cases related to terrorism, human trafficking, fake note, arms deal, cyber terrorism, dealing of explosives and crime against India and Indian citizens. Nevertheless, there will be exceptions like in the case of murder attempt on Andhra CM Jaganmohan Reddy.
