THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Finance Minister Dr Thomas Isaac ordered a probe on the incident of siphoning off Rs two crore from the district collector’s official account of Vanchiyoor sub treasury. The incident will be probed by finance secretary. The report is likely to be submitted tomorrow.
Senior accountant M R Bijulal of Vanchiyoor sub treasury has been suspended on the incident. The action was taken after a preliminary probe. The Vanchiyoor police have registered a case following the complaint of district treasury officer. The accused is absconding. Treasury director entrusted joint director Sajan to conduct a departmental probe against him.
Bijulal used the ID and password of an official who retired on May 31 to pass the transaction which happened on July 27. The fraud was unearthed after senior officers inspected ‘Day Book’ which is a daily register of receipts and payments. The amount was siphoned off from the account in the name of the collector when collectorate was in Vanchiyoor. Three employees handle one cash transaction and two an online transaction. He used his password and the retired official’s password for the transaction.
The government is handling the fraud at Vanchiyoor treasury very seriously. No one will be allowed to cast a shadow on the credibility of the treasury. The government will take strict action on whoever is responsible for it.
