KASARGOD: A one-and-a-half year old baby girl has providentially survived the attack from Covid and snake bite. After 11 days’ treatment in Pariyaram Medical College, the girl returned home safe on Sunday.

The baby was bitten by a viper on July 21. She and her teacher parents from Bihar had been under quarantine after reaching Kerala. The snake bit her as the parents were opening the window.

But nobody came forward to save her life as the neighbours were scared of “contracting Covid from them”. However there was one man out among them. It was CPM leader Jinil Mathew. He rushed to the house, killed the snake, put it in plastic cover, took the baby in his arms and went to Kanhangad hospital in the ambulance of his friend Binu.

From there, the baby was taken to Pariyaram Medical College. The baby’s life could be saved only due to the timely intervention of Jinil.

In the test conducted at the paediatrics department headed Dr M T P Muhammad, the child was found to be having Covid. After her condition improved, she was shifted to the ward from the ICU until she was discharged yesterday.
