IDUKKI: A shutter of Lower Periyar dam in Idukki will be opened soon. Those residing on both sides of Periyar have been asked to be vigilant. The shutter of Peringalkuthu in Thrissur will be opened soon. The district collector has warned those staying on the shores of Bharathapuzha to be on high alert.

The Mangalam dam was opened at 2.45 pm this afternoon. The executive engineer said the dam is being opened as the water level is likely to rise due to the current intensity of the monsoon. He said those living on the banks of the river should be careful.
