NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has granted additional six months’ time for completing the trial in the actress attack case. This order is in response to the trial court judge’s appeal, seeking permission for extension of the trial period under the current circumstances.

The Supreme Court’s earlier instruction was that the trial be completed within six months. The order in this regard was given on the third week of January. In that case, the trial should have been completed by July.

But the court could not function and the trial could not be carried out properly as it was lockdown. It was under these circumstances that the trial court judge sought the extension of the trial period.

The letter in this regard was handed over to Supreme Court registry on Saturday. The Supreme Court had earlier rejected Dileep’s plea for staying the trial.
