THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police Wednesday arrested M R Bijulal, accused in the Vanchiyoor treasury fraud case. He was taken into custody from his lawyer’s office in the capital city. ‘I have not siphoned off any money and my account has been misused,’ Bijulal told the media. He reached his lawyer’s office at the time when the police was trying to find him. He was forcefully taken into custody from here.
Bijulal, the senior accountant of Vanchiyoor sub-treasury, is accused of siphoning off Rs 2 crore from the Special Treasury Savings Bank (STSB) account of the district collector. The case is that he transferred the amount to his own and his wife’s accounts. He left home last Saturday when the news came out and was suspected to have fled to Tamil Nadu. The principal sessions court had sought an explanation on his anticipatory bail plea. The case is being investigated by a special police team of the district crime branch.
