KOZHIKODE: Heavy rains are continuing in Malabar. The water level rose in Chaliyar and Iruvazhanjipuzha. People residing in parts of Thiruvambadi and Karasseri have asked to be on high alert. Hilly areas are at risk of landslides.
Four including two children have died in Wayanad and Malappuram. There were extensive damages in the heavy rains and wind. There were landslides in Mattara forests in Kannur. Manikadavu and Mattara bridges are under water. Four units of national disaster management have reached Kerala in the wake of continuous rain in many places. More units will reach in the coming days.
Red alert has been sounded in Wayanad and Kozhikode on Thursday as there are chances of heavy rains. There are strong winds and rains in the Thamarasseri region. There were landslides in Nilambur. Relief camps opened at Bhoothanam, Poolappadam and Kurumbalangod Schools in the Nilambur due to incessant rains. 30 families have been evacuated.
Munderi Bridge at Pothukkalil in Malappuram has been washed away. With this, those residing in colonies of Iruttukuthi Vaniyambalam, Kumbalappara and Tharipotti have been isolated. Kuttanpuzha, Kadavur and Neryamangalam areas are on high alert. As there is a possibility of mudslide, the residents have been directed to shift to camps.
