THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department on Thursday forecasted that Kerala will continue to receive extremely heavy rainfall for the next two days. Following a flood warning from the Central Water Commission (CWC), authorities are taking necessary measures to face any kind of emergency situation. Earlier, the IMD had issued a special bulletin saying the well-marked low-pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal adjoining north Odisha and West Bengal coasts was observed as a low-pressure area over South West Madhya Pradesh.

The IMD said that a red alert (over 20 cm of rains) has been issued to Malappuram district for August 7 and an orange alert (6 cm-20 cm rains) in nine districts of Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod till August 9. A yellow alert has been issued in Alappuzha and Kottayam districts. The IMD also said that Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts will receive heavy rainfall at isolated places on Friday. Meanwhile, the government informed that those people who will be shifted to the relief camps will have to follow COVID guidelines.
