THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Customs continues to doubt Minister K T Jaleel’s connection with UAE consulate as it has not believed Jaleel’s argument that the parcel he received from UAE through Consulate contained Quran.
The Customs has also taken exception to his statements over his connection with the Consulate.
On the basis of all these observations, the Customs has send a report to the Centre. In the report it is said that till date there are no proof to show that religious books have been sent through the UAE consulate.
“As per the rules for regulating foreign assistant, an inquiry should be ordered against the minister. By receiving religious texts and by establishing connections with foreign consulate, the minister has violated the rules,” the report sent to the Union finance department says.
Jaleel’s claim is that the Quran texts received as parcel from the UAE consulate in Thiruvananthapuram were sent to Malappuram in the vehicle of C-apt, a government institution. But, the Customs’ report has rebuffed Jaleel’s claim, saying that it is not the policy of UAE government to distribute religious texts through the consulate in other countries. The noose further tightens around Jaleel as the UAE has made it clear that they had not sent so many Quran texts through the consulate.
Meanwhile, Jaleel the other day said that the packets of Quran received are still kept safe in two institutions in Edappaly and Alathur. But again, this is seen as a violation of protocol as a minister is no supposed to directly enter into any deal with a foreign office.
However the stand taken by the Centre in the report against Jaleel in the coming days will become decisive in the probe being carried out in the gold smuggling case.
