MUNNAR: A 50-member medical team of the Indian Air Force will reach the place where a landslide occurred in Rajamala. The government has informed that if necessary people will be airlifted if the weather is favourable. The government had asked the Indian Air Force to provide a helicopter. The NDRF team from Arakkonam will reach here by night. Currently, rescue operations are being carried out by the Disaster Management Force and other rescue operations are being held here.
The first information obtained was that mud caved in on top of two houses of Kannan Devan Plantation at Pettimudi in Rajamala. The locals said what happened was a major tragedy. Four houses have been completely destroyed. There were 83 people there. Fourteen people have lost their lives and nearly ten have been hospitalised. Seriously injured have been shifted to Kottayam Medical College. Health Minister K K Shailaja said mobile medical team and ambulances have been sent to Rajamala. The National Disaster Management Team from Alappuzha and Thrissur have left for Rajamala.
