IDUKKI: In the Nedumkandan custodial death case, former Idukki SP K B Venugopal has been questioned by CBI notice. On Monday the CBI had served him notice, asking him to be present at the CBI office on Tuesday for interrogation.
As the CBI is also probing the roles of former DySPs Shamaz and Abdul Salam, they were also questioned today.
The doctor and jail staff who conducted the post-mortem, and the Magistrate who remanded Rajkumar will be brought under the purview of the CBI investigtion.
"The SP actually owed the responsibility to prevent custodial death... If incriminating evidence is obtained after questioning him, we'll make moves to take legal steps against him," the CBI said.
The CBI had requested the court to reject the anticipatory bail plea of Venugopal. It had also submitted before the court that there were witness accounts that senior police officials had information about Rajkumar's police custody.
Wagamon native Rajkumar died on June 21, last year at Peerumedu jail. In the incident four policemen including Nedumkandam station SI were arrested. A judicial inquiry is going on into the incident.
