THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Customs has sent summons to State protocol officer over the incident in which Minister Jaleel had distributed Quran in Malappuram after importing it from UAE.
“The State government won’t be able to give permission to import religious texts through diplomatic channel. Then how was he able to do that?” ask Customs officers.
The Customs has also asked the protocol officer to give the number of diplomatic parcels that arrived at Thiruvananthapuram airport over the past two years. The Customs have also send summons to BSNL in this regard, asking them to submit the call details of the accused in the gold smuggling case.
As per the protocol, it is impossible for Customs to issue clearance certificate to those willing to import religious texts via diplomatic channel.
The summons has been sent to find out whether the State had given clearance for the import.
Minister K T Jaleel had agreed that UAE consulate had handed over the parcel of Quran to him.
