KATTAPPANA: Kattappana sub-registrar G Jayalakshami was suspended over the incident in which a bed-ridden cancer patient was asked to be present at her office upstairs for registering title deeds. This adamant stand seemed to have affected the patient and Kattappana native Saneesh, who died the next day.
The incident happened on August 6. The relatives had taken him in an ambulance to the office compound but the sub-registrar took a stubborn stand that Suneesh should report at the office, situated at the upper storey of the mini civil station building. Finally, the relatives had to carry critically ailing Suneesh to the office.
The suspension order issued by PWD Minister G Sudhakaran criticised the official. The order noted that Jayalakshami behaved rude to cancer patient and committed a serious lapse in her commitment to duty. Sudhakaran had announced this through his Facebook page.
He lamented that when such a person is in the compound of the office, the official should have considered that as his presence in the office and completed the formalities. The minister even expressed his wish to terminate the officer from the service.
The minister’s action has won appreciation in the social media.
