THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government corrected the decision of giving powers to the police to decide and demarcate containment zones. The new decision of the government is to give the powers to disaster management force to fix the containment zones. The police will now be tasked with enforcing restrictions in the containment zones.

The disaster management force will handle the lower level data collection. The new order clarifies that the public must be notified before restrictions are implemented in the containment zones. Earlier, there were widespread complaints from health workers' organizations against handing over of COVID data collection and demarcation of containment zone to the police. The chief secretary had earlier issued an order directing police on the preparation of contact lists.

The chief minister had yesterday stated that the police action would continue including collecting information.
