THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state has confirmed 1564 new COVID cases on Thursday, CM Pinarayi Vijayan said. This is the highest single-day spike of COVID cases reported in the state. Among the new cases, 1380 persons developed the disease through contact including 98 cases without an identified source of infection. While 60 newly infected persons returned from abroad, 100 returned from other states. 15 health workers developed the disease in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 766 patients tested negative for the virus on Thursday, the minister added.

The state reported three COVID deaths on Thursday. The deceased are Thiruvananthapuram Mukkola native Lissy Sajan (55), Kozhikode Ramanattukara native Radhakrishnan (80) and Malappuram native Abdul Rahman (63).
As many as 13,839 people are undergoing treatment for COVID-19 in the state while 25,694 have recovered. 16 new hotspots have been identified in the state on Thursday.
