THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state has confirmed 1569 new COVID cases on Friday, Health Minister KK Shailaja said. This is the highest single-day spike of COVID cases reported in the state.
Among the new cases, 1354 persons developed the disease through contact including 86 cases without an identified source of infection. While 56 persons had returned from abroad, 132 returned from other states. 27 health workers developed the disease in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, 1304 patients tested negative for the virus on Friday, the minister added.

The state reported 10 COVID deaths on Friday. The deceased are Thiruvananthapuram Kadunganallur native Lakshmi(74), Thiruvananthapuram Vallakkadavu native Nirmala (65), Malappuram Perinthalmanna native Moyduppa(82), Thiruvananthapuram native Lalitha (70), Thiruvananthapuram Madhavapuram native M Surendran (60), Ernakulam North Paravoor native Thankappan (70), Thiruvananthapuram Poundkadavu native Stansilas (80), Thrissur Arimbur native George (65) and Ernakulam Fort Kochi native Rukhiya (60).
As many as 14,094 people are undergoing treatment for COVID-19 in the state while 26,996 have recovered. 18 new hotspots were identified in the state on Friday.
